European elections 2014
The European elections were by far the dominating topic of the month. Before the elections, citizens requested information on how to vote, especially from abroad, on candidates and parties, on Members’ work and on Parliament’s functioning. After the elections, citizens were interested in the election results; others were complaining about the holding of the elections in their respective host countries.

Elections and tensions in Ukraine
Ongoing tensions in eastern Ukraine, the separatist referendums in Donetsk and Luhansk, and the Ukrainian presidential elections on 25 May 2014 triggered citizens to turn to the Parliament with their opinions and questions about the EU’s policy towards Ukraine. Many of them expressed concerns about the transitional government of Ukraine and wished for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in the country.

Secessions within the EU?
Citizens continue to write to the European Parliament concerning the hypothetical secessions within the European Union. Some expressed in particular their support of the referendum in Catalonia, while others requested information on the consequences of independence. Moreover, many of them asked for the recognition of Catalan language in the European Union.

Stray dogs in Romania
The situation of stray dogs in Romania has become a recurrent topic for citizens for several months. Citizens turned to the EP expressing their worries about the measures adopted for the mass euthanasia of these animals and asking for the intervention of the European Union in resolving the situation.
