The election of the new European Commission has been a recurrent subject of interest for citizens in the past months, with the hearings of the Commissioners-designate in particular being a frequent topic. Citizens addressed the European Parliament to strongly express their opinions on the nomination of certain Commissioners-designate. Some complained about the suitability of specific candidates and questioned their qualifications for the job. Others showed their support of individual nominees and advocated that the EP approve the proposed Commission.

The Citizens’ Enquiries Unit (Ask EP) has published a quarterly review – Ask EP-Insight: July-September 2014 above mentioned issue and other major topics of citizens’ concerns listed below:

  • Towards a new Commission
  • Ukraine: tensions with Russia, association with the EU
  • Scottish referendum
  • Opposition against TTIP/CETA
  • Violence escalation in Gaza

The latest Ask EP-Insight also provides statistics for the third quarter of 2014. The review’s main objective is to compile information on the issues covered in the questions sent by citizens to the European Parliament and to pass on citizens’ concerns to Members of the European Parliament and the institution as a whole.
