On May 6, the European Commission unveiled its strategy for creating a digital single market, one of the top priorities of President Jean-Claude Juncker. It aims to stimulate economic growth and create jobs by making the European Union embrace the digital revolution and open up digital opportunities for people and businesses. The Commission’s communication sets out 16 initiatives, which envisage giving consumers and businesses easier access to digital goods and services, creating the right conditions and a level playing field for digital networks and innovative services to flourish as well as maximising the growth potential of the digital economy. They provide, for example, for facilitating e-commerce, tackling geo-blocking, modernising copyright law and simplifying VAT arrangements.
