The number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion (see Figure 8) corresponds to the addition of persons who i) are at risk of monetary poverty; and/or ii) face severe material deprivation; and/or iii) live in a household with very low work intensity. In 2019, 92.4 million people (21.1 %) in the EU-27 were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. After peaking at 108.7 million in 2012, the number of persons who were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in the EU-27 has decreased since then (see Figure 8). This represents a diminution of 16.3 million compared to 2012. The number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in the EU-27 was 11.3 million lower in 2019 than in 2010.
