This table reveals that, according to UNODC data, after their inclusion in the Schengen Area in 2007, the newly added Schengen States report 14.05% lower acquisitive rates of crime than their non-Schengen neighbours – column (1). In addition, individuals in the newly added Schengen States feel relatively more secure after the abolition of the border controls than their non-Schengen counterparts – column (4).
