Proportion of men and women in the European Parliament

The proportion of women among all MEPs at the beginning of each parliamentary term had grown steadily, starting at 16.6 % in the first term, in July 1979, reaching 40.6 % in July 2019. However, at the beginning of the current term, the percentage dropped slightly, to 38.7 %.
