The data on immigration clearly show that, post-Brexit, the numbers of people coming to the UK rose sharply, reaching record levels in 2023. Migrants of Asian and African origin greatly outstrip the numbers of EU nationals immigrating to the UK before Brexit (see Figure 4), with a strong net effect as higher non-EU immigration outweighed lower EU immigration.
