The US is the fourth largest country in the world (9.15 million square kilometres), with a population of 345 million (2024). Its economy is the largest in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), amounting to 25 % of the global economy. According to International Monetary Fund figures for 2024, the country’s GDP is growing by 2.8 %, its inflation hovers around 3 %, and its unemployment around 4.1 %. Furthermore, the US is running a 7.6 % deficit, and the general government gross debt is equal to 121 % of its GDP (the respective figures for the EU in 2023 were 3.5 % and 80.8 %, although the average EU GDP in 2024 was growing much more slowly, at 1 %).
