After the 2024 elections, women made up 38.5 % of elected members of the European Parliament (2024-2029), down from 40 % in the previous term, breaking a progressive trend over previous legislatures. Consistent with the research findings presented in other sections, the share of women in the four committees, one sub-committee and new special committee that deal with external affairs is lower (see Figure 4). In the 48 delegations for relations with third countries and international organisations, 11 delegation chairs are women (23 % compared to 38 % in the previous term).
