The covered bond is a debt instrument with a long history in Europe, that has recently come to be used in an increasing number of EU countries: according to statistics published by the European Covered Bond Council, the covered bond market has developed into the most important segment of privately issued bonds on Europe’s capital markets, with a volume of €2 600 billion at the end of 2013.
