Interested in historical information about the European Parliament? Whether you are a researcher or simply curious, the Parliament’s historical archives can be now found on a new dedicated website within the Europarl portal.

This new website presents the richness of the European Parliament holdings, illustrated with samples of documents. From legislative records to lesser known testimonies of events in the history of Parliamentary activity, the vast collections of the Parliament’s archives in Luxembourg are now available to browse. Documents include those of the Committee of the Four Presidents in the early years of the institution; and range from papers of the former Presidents of the Parliament to Members’ private papers.

A Multimedia Gallery is also available, where one can listen to the testimonies of former European Parliament Presidents, or discover the collection of European elections posters, dating from 1979 onwards.

Read our publications online or download them free of charge. The EU history series and the EP history series will take you from the Sakharov Prize to the launch of the euro; from the role of the EP in the appointment of the Commission, to the history of the European charter.

Finally for those who want to consult the European Parliament’s records or conduct a research visit, you will find all the practical details you need. All the records are digitised and available in several languages in our Reading Room, or upon demand.
