The Library’s mission is a well-informed Parliament. Our mission is to serve EP Members, working to support the decision-making process in the European Union . EP Library supplies information and analytical support tailored to MEPs’ individual needs. We are objective, non-partisan and balanced – values not so self-evident in the Internet age! Consequently we do not serve the general public directly. However, you may still find our information products useful and interesting.
To better serve the Members of the European Parliament and their offices, this blog will facilitate access for MEPs all over the world, allow search-engines to display our information products, and even allow citizens to benefit. However, this Blog is much more than just another social media channel to tick off on our list. It is central to our use of Web 2.0 technologies to serve Members of the European Parliament.
The Blog aims to improve:
Access: Library information will be aggregated and available via the internet – wherever Members find themselves, not just in their EP offices. Take a look at the “What we do” section, where you will find our selection of information in all policy areas, Library Briefings, Keysources and Summaries.
Professional comment: Library staff are information professionals with vast experience. We want to share our professional knowledge with a wider audience – see the “How we do it” section. Watch out for our guest bloggers from the information world!
Your involvement: As an MEP, an Assistant, or as a policy professional, or interested citizen, whether you are non-partisan or politically engaged, you surely have an opinion on policies or on our information selection. We already share on Facebook and we are looking forward to some lively conversations on our blogposts.
I hope you will enjoy reading our Blog.
…and, for Members of the European Parliament and their offices, you know you can always count on our services via our Intranet!
Alfredo De Feo,
Director of the Library of the European Parliament
