The chart above presents the share of women working as administrators at levels 1 and 2 as a share of all ad-ministrators. Level 1 means Director-General, Deputy Director-General or equivalent, and level 2 Director, Principal Advisor or equivalent. In the European Parliament the share changed from 29% to 39% over the period 2003-12. In the national administrations (chart below), women’s presence at level 1 administrator positions across Member States is far more uniform than for level 2 administrators, where the EU average female share is 38%
