In the European Union, 22 out of 28 Member States have a statutory minimum wage (the exceptions are Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Italy, and Sweden). Minimum wage levels and setting mechanisms vary significantly across countries. Germany was the last major industrialised European country to introduce a statutory minimum wage, in January 2015.
