As in 2060 people will live (on average) six years longer than today, according to Eurostat statistics the proportion of the population aged 65 or older will rise from 18.5% (2014) to 28.4% (2060) (see Figure 1). As a consequence, the ratio of working age people (15-64) to those 65 and older – the old-age dependency ratio – is expected to decrease from around 4 to 1 in 2013 to 2 to 1 by 2060.
