2010-2013 Evolution in terms of fatalities by age groups of road users

The data provided in the interim evaluation of the policy orientations on road safety 2011-2020, published by the Commission in May 2015, show that two age groups are over-represented among road fatalities (see Table 2). People over 65 account for 25 % of fatalities, while they represent 18 % of the population, and young people between 15 and 24 years account for 17 % of fatalities, while representing 11 % of the population. The elderly have seen less reduction in fatalities over the years 2010-2013 (-5 %) than any other age group.
