SIS alerts on persons

Currently, Member States are not obliged to enter alerts on entry bans and return decisions in the SIS. As evidenced by a number of eu-LISA reports, despite an increase in the total number of SIS alerts from 50 million in 2013 to 63 million in 2015, the number of alerts on persons remained low and decreased slightly, from 861.900 (1.7 % of total) to 793.318 (1.2 % of total) over the same period (see Figure 2). Available data also suggest that during that period, the distribution of alerts among Member States was uneven. Accordingly, in 2015, three countries generated more than half of the total number of alerts: Italy (18 million) Germany (9.5 million) and France (6.5 million). The same was true for the number of searches in the SIS: they increased from 1.2 billion to 2.9 billion between April 2013 and December 2015, with three Member States accounting for about half of the searches in 2015 – France (555 million), Spain (398 million) and Germany (393 million).
