‘Staffers’ working on committees, in members’ personal offices and in other Congressional roles help the 435 Representatives and 100 Senators in their daily work. In 2021, there were 9 034 staff working in the House of Representatives. While no figures for the Senate for 2021 were available at the time of writing, the figure for 2020 was 5 717. Over time, the proportion of committee staff appears to have decreased and personal staff increased (including in districts/states), notably in the Senate.
