The ethnic diversity of the US Congress has been steadily increasing. The 117th Congress is the most diverse in history, with a record presence of members of African American, Hispanic-Latino, Asian and American Indian origin. The 117th Congress is the sixth Congress in a row that is more diverse than its immediate predecessor. However, the percentage of non-white members voting (around 24 %, up from 22 % in the 116th Congress) is below their 42 % share of the US population. The House is significantly more diverse than the Senate.
