The Speaker is the political and parliamentary leader of the House of Representatives. Elected by the House every two years, at the beginning of each new Congress, the Speaker is the only House leadership position mentioned in the US Constitution (Article 1). The Speaker for the 116th Congress is Representative Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, CA). The House Democratic Caucus and the House Republican Conference play roles analogous to political groups in the European Parliament.
