Poultry meat production in the EU

Broiler production is by far the largest sub-sector of the poultry meat production chain, followed by turkey and duck. Turkey production in Europe is concentrated in the six above-mentioned Member States, accounting for 88 % (or 1.8 million tonnes) of EU production of turkey meat. France is by far the greatest producer of duck meat, accounting for around 50 % of total EU production in 2014 (mainly meat and foie gras).
Chicken is second after pig meat when it comes to EU meat consumption. In 2018, average consumption was 24.1 kg per capita (compared with 32.5 kg for pigmeat and 11.0 kg for beef). Chicken consumption is continuing to grow in almost all Member States.
