As early as February 2020, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed that the world was fighting not just an epidemic but also an ‘infodemic’. Acknowledging that journalists play a vital role in informing the public on scientific developments, specifically as regards vaccines in these unprecedented times, the WHO published general guidelines for professional media reporting on Covid-19, which ‘should be followed whenever possible’ (see Figure 1).
