The initial objective of COVAX – at least 30 % of every world economy’s population vaccinated by the end of 2021 – was not met (see Figure 3). As of 6 March 2022, 73.39 % people in high-income economies (72.60 % in the EU) had completed a primary vaccination series – i.e. they had received the number of doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol (booster excluded), most often two doses. Since the first COVAX vaccine delivery on 24 February 2021, the vaccination status of AMC countries has much improved. However, strong discrepancies remain: in upper middle income economies, 75.72 % of the population had completed vaccination as of 6 March 2022 (as opposed to 0.15 % on 24 February 2021); in lower middle-income economies the figure for the same date was 47.24 % (0.07 % on 24 February 2021); in low-income economies, 27 % people had been fully vaccinated on 6 March 2022 (from statistically zero on 24 February 2021).
