According to the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), the deployment of publicly available electric charging points has been uneven across the EU. As of end 2020, nearly 80 % of the more than 200 000 publicly available charging points were located in five Member States: the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden and Italy. In comparison, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), in 2020, China had the highest number of charging points in the world – 807 000. In the same year, the United States (US) had 99 000 charging points.
