The group has played a prominent role in the context of the Russian invasion by enabling the swift organisation of coordinated export controls and sanctions, as the experts from both sides had already been working together on these matters (see Figure 1). The Paris-Saclay statement commended the group for its ‘unprecedented level of cooperation’ and underlined that ‘the restrictive measures, imposed in record time, demonstrate the added value of close cooperation between the European Union and the United States’. The group also discusses implementation of sanctions with third countries, to maximise their overall impact.
