In some countries, the EU budget represents a significant source of resources for investment. For instance, in 19 Member States, mainly among those that joined the EU after April 2004, the EU budget – as a share of total government spending – is significantly higher than 2.7 % average, with figures reaching over 10 % for Lithuania, Croatia and Latvia (Figure 7).
