A Europe fit for the digital age

A Europe fit for the digital age

As the legislative cycle is coming to the end, some major new pieces of legislation are already in force, notably the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the Directive on a high common level of cybersecurity (NIS2), the Chips Act, the Data Act, interoperable Europe Act, and the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). Others, such as the European Digital Identity
(EUid) have recently been adopted by both co-legislators and will be in force in the coming weeks. Political agreement was reached between November 2023 and March 2024 on some prominent files promoting the digital transformation (artificial intelligence (AI) act, European cyber-resilience act, gigabit infrastructure act, cyber solidarity act and working conditions of platform workers), on industrial files (critical raw materials act and net-zero industry act), and on files aimed at improving the functioning of the single market (internal market emergency and resilience act, and non-road mobile machinery).
