The Library regularly visits Members of the European Parliament and their offices, to ensure they have access to the best information for their needs. Recently, we have been visiting the Croatian observers. The Croatian observers are special, as they are still Members of the Sabor, (the Croatian National Parliament), and need to be present in Zagreb for Committee meetings and plenary sessions. In addition, they don’t yet have assistants at the EP to help them in their work as observers.
We’ve been in contact with one observer, Mr Andrej Plenković, (now elected to the European Parliament and starting as an MEP on 1 July 2013) and his assistant, Ms Morana, for six months already. We wanted to know what kind of services they would like to receive, when they set up their office at the EP. We were also interested to find out what was their impression of the information they had received from us so far.
Many of the new MEPs’ assistants will arrive at the EP during the first week of July. No doubt they will get straight into action. So we have arranged to give them introductory information training as soon as they get here, (probably in the third week of July 2013). Our Croatian colleague, Kristina Grošek, will show them the facilities on our Library intranet site, such as our enquiry service “Ask the Library”, “Policy Areas” and the News services available, including alerts. We expect them to be interested in important EP and EU sources and using press databases.
Later this year, when the new Members and assistants return from the August recess, we will continue our round of Contact and Consultancy visits to individual MEP’s offices.
A sada na hrvatskome jeziku
Jednako kao i zastupnici Europskog parlamenta, tako su i hrvatski promatrači bili obuhvaćeni kontakt posjetima čija je svrha kratko predstavljanje knjižničnih usluga korisnicima. Neki od njih su osobno došli u Knjižnicu, a neke smo posjetili u njihovim uredima.
Situacija hrvatskih promatrača se prilično razlikovala od one stalnih zastupnika Europskog parlamenta. Oni ne samo da su imali obveze u Europskome parlamentu, već su prije svega bili zastupnici Hrvatskoga sabora gdje su morali prisustvovati saborskim sjednicama kao i sjednicama radnih tijela. Osim toga, nisu imali asistente koji bi im pomogli u njihovom radu u Europskom parlamentu.
Stoga posebno zanimljivim smatramo razgovor s jednim od hrvatskih promatrača, gospodinom Andrejem Plenkovićem, koji je ujedno izabran i za zastupnika u Europskom parlamentu s početkom mandata od 1. srpnja 2013. Željeli smo razgovarati s njim i njegovom asistenticom od prije pola godine, gospođom Moranom, kako bismo saznali malo više o tome jesu li i u kojoj mjeri zadovoljni informacijama koje su od nas dobili i kako bismo saznali koju vrstu i opseg usluga očekuju u budućnosti.
Mnogo će novih asistenata započeti s radom početkom srpnja, bez puno vremena za prilagodbu, posao počinje odmah. Stoga smo odlučili osigurati uvodne edukacijske treninge što je prije moguće, a najvjerojatnije u trećem tjednu srpnja 2013. Opći pregled osnovnih usluga Knjižnice predstaviti će naša hrvatska kolegica Kristina Grošek. Ona će ih upoznati s uslugama i informacijskim izvorima poput: “Pitajte Knjižnicu”, “Tematska područja” te “Novostima”, uključujući upozorenja (alerts), ali također i s važnijim informacijskim izvorima Europskog parlamenta i Europske unije. Nakon toga bismo željeli organizirati treninge vezane uz upotrebu novinskih baza podataka.
Kasnije u toku godine, kad se novi zastupnici i njihovi asistenti vrate nakon ljetne pauze, započeti ćemo s kontakt posjetima i konzultacijskim posjetima svakom od zastupničkih ureda.
