In this issue: MH17 aircraft disaster in Ukraine, Escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, TTIP and TiSA negotiations, MEPs statute.

The Malaysian aircraft disaster in Ukraine and the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine were two of the main issues in July 2014 which prompted citizens to write to the European Parliament. As in the previous months, citizens continued to express their concerns on the free trade agreement EU-US. They also sent questions on different aspects regarding the work and statute of the Members of the European Parliament.

The following topics are based on questions and comments from citizens writing to the European Parliament.

MH17 crash: Malaysian aircraft disaster in Ukraine

ASK EP - Topics and LinksAfter the crash of Malaysia Airlines plane MH17 in Ukraine on 17 July 2014, citizens sent messages of grief and concern to the European Parliament. They commented on the violent conflict in eastern Ukraine and urged the European Union to take more determined action to resolve the crisis.

Escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip

Citizens turned to the European Parliament expressing their concerns about the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine. They called on the EU and the Parliament to take action to stop the military operations which have caused a high number of civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip.

TTIP, TiSA and fracking

Over the last months, citizens have turned to the European Parliament questioning the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the US. Recurrently, citizens link the negotiations on the TTIP to other issues like the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) or the environmental impact of the hydraulic fracturing of shale gas (fracking).
